Hospitals and surgical departments

Laparoscopic theatre staffing is a planning problem as much as a clinical one.

The context

A laparoscopic procedure conventionally requires someone to hold and direct the camera for its duration. That is a trained person, in the room, for the whole case.

How departments staff that role — and what it costs them in scheduling — varies widely between hospitals and between health systems.

Where Orvue fits

Orvue is being developed for the surgeon to control the camera directly. What that means for how a department organises a theatre is a question we expect to work through with clinical partners rather than answer for them.

Talking to us

We are interested in conversations with surgical departments about how laparoscopic theatres are actually run. The device is not available for use, so these are development conversations, not commercial ones.
